If coach [autotag]Bryan Harsin[/autotag] gets any motivation from his doubters, he may be the most motivated man in the SEC this offseason.
A new coach ranking by the Montgomery Advertiser ranked Harsin 12th out of 14 SEC head coaches, only beating out Missouri’s Eli Drinkwitz and Vanderbilt’s Clark Lea. Here is what the list said about Harsin’s abilities:
“Harsin proved a fine coach for Boise State, his alma mater, but he’s a poor fit at one of the SEC’s most pressure-cooker jobs. Auburn’s lackluster six-win season in Harsin’s debut preceded an equally concerning aftermath: a lackluster signing class and an exodus of players and coaches. Harsin survived an offseason probe from Auburn’s kangaroo court, but it seemed more like a delay of the inevitable. AU faces a typically tough schedule and no recruiting momentum.”
Much has been made of Harsin and that “kangaroo court” that almost directly led to the exodus of numerous players and staff. Recruiting has certainly been a large issue for Harsin too, and that’s an area he will have to improve in if he intends to stay in The Plains any longer than a year.
The Tigers will face off against the Mercer Bears to kick off the season in Auburn on Sept. 3, which will be Harsin’s first test to prove he belongs at Jordan-Hare stadium.
