Bruce Arians: ‘The players, they’re going to all get sick’

Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Bruce Arians thinks all the players will get sick, just a matter of how sick.

Bruce Arians delivered a stunning quote Tuesday about the COVID-19 pandemic and how he believes it will impact his coaching staff and players on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Arians is 67 and has a veteran staff, including offensive consultant Tom Moore (81), safeties coach Nick Rapone (64), and quarterbacks coach Clyde Christensen (64).

Arians, himself, had cancerous tumors removed from his prostate, skin, and kidney. The last diagnosis prompted him to leave the Arizona Cardinals after the 2017 season despite having time left on his contract.

Arians, who spent a year in the booth with CBS before returning to the sidelines in Tampa, fears for his players.

“Tom (Moore) is probably the healthiest one of all of us,” Arians told the Tampa Bay Times. “We’ve got to be careful. The players, they’re going to all get sick, that’s for sure. It’s just a matter of how sick they get.”

Meanwhile the man who will become Tom Brady’s second NFL coach is planning for the season and the precautions that need to be taken.

“All my team meetings, we’ll do in the indoor facility like a big auditorium and I’ll use a microphone, which I hate using, but I have to,” Arians said. “If I’m going to take my mask off, I’ve got to be far enough away to get my point across and the Bucs have some big TV screens to put my messages on.”
