Bruce Arians explains how Tom Brady’s leadership is changing the Buccaneers

“When he talks, they listen.”

Tom Brady is working on changing the way the Tampa Bay Buccaneers operate on a small scale. But it sounds like Buccaneers coach Bruce Arians believes those little adjustments have have a major impact.

During Arians’ appearance on Los Angeles Angels manager Joe Maddon’s YouTube show titled, “Uncorked,” the Buccaneers coach share what he’s seen so far from Brady, even in a virtual-only environment this offseason.

“We got a great locker room, but to now get a guy that’s been there, done it, six times, (he’s) the G.O.A.T,?” Arians said. “When he talks, they listen. It’s so different than a coach. I think for us as coaches, there has to be a bond between the coach and those guys so that you give them ownership. You ask them questions. How do you want to do things? So if they think they have a big hand in it, they send a message to the rest of the guys. They send your message to the rest of the guys. With Tom, it’s been fantastic.”

Brady joined the Buccaneers after 20 seasons with the Patriots, and 17 trips to the playoffs, eight trips to the Super Bowl with six wins in the big game. Tampa Bay, meanwhile, haven’t made the playoffs since 2007, and as an organization, it has just one Super Bowl win. Arians is hoping Brady can change the Bucs in the same way Peyton Manning, who left the Colts for the Broncos at the end of his career, changed the way Denver operated.

“The way (Manning) commanded the room and the team was amazing,” Arians said. “What he asked those guys to do. I’m sure Tom Brady has a lot of the same things. Just the little bit I’ve been around him so far, it’s going to be the same way.”
