The Cleveland Browns did what they had to do short-handed in Week 7 against the Denver Broncos. The 17 – 14 victory may not go down in history as the greatest win ever but it does go down in the win column.
The Browns are now 4 – 3 on the season and will be, at most, one game back of the second-best record in the AFC when Week 7 ends. Cleveland now has 10 days off to get as many of their players healthy as possible before facing off with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Halloween.
Week 7’s performance is unlikely to build too much, outside of keeping their winning record, except for the emergence of running back D’Ernest Johnson. With 22 carries and 146 yards, Johnson carried the Browns offense on his back throughout the game. His hard running and nifty moves helped the home team have over 13 more minutes of possession than the visitors.
The defense did what they had to do to get the victory but wasn’t able to get important stops on two long drives in the second half. Still a lot to clean up on that side of the ball but the upcoming schedule could give them a chance to do just that.
