Browns owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam donate $20 million for sports medicine center

A donation from Cleveland Browns owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam will help establish a sports medicine innovation center at University Hospitals.

Cleveland Browns owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam will help establish a local sports medicine center with a $20 million donation to University Hospitals, the team announced Tuesday.

The new sports innovation center will be run by Dr. James E. Voos, who’s the head doctor for the Browns, the president-elect of the NFL Physicians Society and the chair of the hospital’s department of orthopedic surgery.

“The health and well-being of our athletes and our communities is of the utmost importance to us,” The Haslams said in a statement. “We are inspired by Dr. Voos and the team he has assembled –  his incredible drive and vision to continually innovate, searching for cutting-edge opportunities, while providing world-class care. We know the unique opportunity we have to invest in sports medicine, creating new technologies and innovations to improve performance and contribute to the future of sport, while creating healthier athletes and communities. It is a privilege to partner with Dr. Voos and UH in this exciting next chapter.”

Dr. Voos won the NFL Physicians Society’s top research award in March for his work on ACL injuries in athletes. He’s been with the team since 2014.
