Browns name Tommy Rees OC, potentially opening Kubiak for Seahawks

The offseason coaching carousel continues, and another name/coaching opportunity is officially off the board. On Tuesday it was announced the Cleveland Browns would be promoting passing game specialist and tight ends coach Tommy Rees to offensive coordinator. As mentioned in Tom Pelissero’s tweet below, he has bounced around several college football programs prior to making the leap to the NFL.

Why this is significant is because the Browns are no longer competition for the Seahawks when it comes to seeking out a new offensive coordinator. Seattle had interviewed New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, however, so did Cleveland. If Kubiak is the man Mike Macdonald wants running his offense, he now has a clear path to hiring him, as the Browns are officially out of the Kubiak sweepstakes.

Seattle has interviewed Klint Kubiak, Thomas Brown and Hank Fraley for the open offensive coordinator position.
