Browns’ Myles Garrett aims to be the LeBron James of NFL defenders

Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett is out to prove himself as the LeBron James of the NFL.

The 2021-22 NFL season is about to get underway, and the Cleveland Browns have another year of intrigue ahead of them.

After an 18-year playoff drought, the Browns finally clinched a playoff spot in the 2020-21 campaign with a roster comprising more talent than ever.

Names like Jarvis Landry, Odell Beckham Jr., Nick Chubb and more line up on the offensive end, while players like Myles Garrett seek to sack the quarterback on defense.

Garrett, the No. 1 overall pick in 2017, is out to prove himself and improve his abilities again this season.

The four-year pro has steadily raised his numbers every year as the defensive line around him upgrades, and with Jadeveon Clowney and Malik Jackson entering the fold, Garrett has a player comparison he strives to be: LeBron James.

End Jadeveon Clowney and tackle Malik Jackson are among the important defensive pieces acquired by Browns General Manager Andrew Berry in the offseason.

“I’ve got my Kyrie and my Love?” Garrett asked rhetorically last week during a wide-ranging interview with the Beacon Journal at CrossCountry Mortgage Campus.

“Well, hell, I have to prove that I’m LeBron first before anything. I have to prove that I’m the playmaker at all levels. Hell, he’s top three in any debate that you have.”

James has been known to be a Dallas Cowboys fan, but the Browns are also up there due to them being located in James’ home state.

Cleveland starts the season against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs on Sept. 12 at 1:25 p.m.
