The Cleveland Browns, without their starting quarterback Deshaun Watson, got embarrassed by the Baltimore Ravens, losing 28-3 at home. Watson had been limited all week and struggled to throw in practice though he said Friday he would play on Sunday. In the end, he did not play and rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson struggled during his NFL debut.
Speaking during his media availability head coach Kevin Stefanski said on Monday that Watson was medically cleared to play Sunday. He said that Watson knows his body and said that he couldn’t go Sunday morning during warm-ups.
The comments seem deliberate to make it clear that the team likely expected Watson to play based on what the trainers were saying. The team looked so completely unprepared to have the rookie play at quarterback and that would make sense if they thought Watson was playing. Cleveland has a lot to figure out during the bye week but at 2-2, they still have everything they want in front of them.
