The Cleveland Browns slowly move toward their first preseason game this Saturday but do so with a lot of caution. The team, like most in the NFL, continues to struggle with injury-related issues. Thankfully, the Browns have not had a significant injury and, with caution, have plans to try to keep that fact true.
The longest injury issue came with linebacker Anthony Walker who injured his knee on August 2nd. Head coach Kevin Stefanski reported that Walker would miss a week or more due to the injury but would not need surgery.
Just a little over a week later, Walker returned to practice on Tuesday. He was limited but his return is a good sign for the team.
Unfortunately, Cleveland had a long list of other players who sat out Tuesday. Most notably was defensive end Myles Garrett. His hamstring issue is not considered serious but he could miss the following practices as well.
With Super Bowl aspirations this season, the Browns are being risk-averse with many of their players. Denzel Ward, for example, sat out Tuesday with soreness. With a longer season, the long haul is more important for the team.
Here is a list of players sitting out Tuesday, according to the team:
- S Grant Delpit (hamstring)
- Tony Fields II (foot)
- DE Myles Garrett (hamstring)
- G Blake Hance (ankle)
- S Ronnie Harrison Jr. (hamstring)
- WR Alexander Hollins (hamstring)
- DT Malik McDowell (rib)
- LB Montrel Meander (hamstring)
- TE David Njoku (shoulder)
- S Sheldrick Redwine (ankle)
- WR Anthony Schwartz (hamstring)
- CB Denzel Ward (soreness)
With the Jacksonville Jaguars preseason game on Saturday, fans could miss out on seeing many of these players. We will keep you up to date with any developments with these injuries.
