Browns: CB Denzel Ward clears concussion protocol and will play vs. Bengals

The Browns top corner will be on the field Sunday

Denzel Ward, the top cornerback of the Cleveland Browns, has been in concussion protocol since after the team’s final preseason game in Kansas City. After returning to practice on a limited basis Ward finally cleared concussion protocol on Friday clearing a path for him to play on Sunday’s opener against the Cincinnati Bengals.

This is huge for the Browns as they stare down the trio of Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, and Tyler Boyd of Cincinnati. Mix in quarterback Joe Burrow and that’s a group you need your top defensive backs for.

One of Sunday’s biggest questions is who is going to play in the slot for the Browns defense and win. Having the option of Ward and Greg Newsome helps the team immensely in their ability to confuse and counter the opposing offense. It’s still a tall task to contain this high-flying Bengals passing offense but having your number one shutdown corner is an absolute must.
