For the first time since the January 15 game in which Brooklyn Nets star forward Kevin Durant sprained his MCL in a contest with the New Orleans Pelicans, the Brooklyn star is not on the Nets’ injury report. That makes a matchup with the Boston Celtics this coming Sunday, March 6 a potential date for his return alongside Boston alumnus Kyrie Irving.
Irving is available given his vaccination status will not keep him on the sidelines as it does in New York City due to that municipality’s strict COVID-19 prevention requirements. So far, the Celtics have dominated the series with Durant and Irving out for both of Boston’s road matches with the Nets, who have also been without the services of sharpshooting small forward Joe Harris, out with complications to ankle surgery.
The Celtics, owners of a healthy roster for much of the last several days, may be without a key player of their own in Jaylen Brown, who sprained his ankle early in Boston’s win over the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday.

It will be one of the more compelling matchups of the season with new additions Andre Drummond and Seth Curry able to play as well.
Though star forward Ben Simmons — picked up in the trade that sent James Harden to the Philadelphia 76ers — will not yet be ready to make his debut for Brooklyn.
