The Brooklyn Nets will kick off official preseason activities on Monday with media day before heading to the West Coast for training camp – but one member of the Big 3 will reportedly be absent at the Barclays Center.
ESPN’s Zach Lowe reported that Kyrie Irving will miss media day due to health and safety protocols, but is expected to rejoin the team for a trip to San Diego. Irving’s absence follows a recent Fox Sports report that he remains unvaccinated.
Due to local regulations that are being upheld by the NBA, players in New York City cannot take part in team activities at the Barclays Center or Madison Square Garden without a vaccination or an approved exemption. Nets GM Sean Marks acknowledged that not every player on the roster has been vaccinated, but said last week he feels “confident” that the full roster could participate in activities soon.
Kyrie Irving is not expected to attend Nets media day today due to New York City health and safety protocols but the Nets fully expect Irving to accompany the team to training camp in San Diego, sources tell @WindhorstESPN and I.
