Ronald Darby signed with the Denver Broncos last offseason as one of then-first-year general manager George Paton’s first free-agent signings in charge of the team, the symbolization of a new era for Broncos Country and a potential second iteration of the No Fly Zone.
Not too long after that, Paton added cornerback Patrick Surtain via the NFL draft. Well, with Russell Wilson in town, it’s going to take massive leaps from the young nucleus of talent imported into Denver via the draft the past three seasons for the team’s seventh-best Super Bowl odds to actualize. Surtain is not exempt, according to Darby.
Talking about what he expects from Surtain in Year 2 last week, Darby said, “For sure a Pro Bowl, a Pro Bowl year for sure. He’s more comfortable as well, knows the defense. You know what he can do on the field, we’ve all seen it. I know he’s going to do great this year.”
Doubling down, Darby added, “Not a lot of guys coming out of college, especially at corner, and get thrown into a starting role and plays as good as he did. To me, he had a Pro Bowl year last year. I know he’s going to continue to build onto that.”
Surtain totaled 58 tackles, 14 pass breakups and four interceptions last year, returning one of those picks 70 yards for a touchdown. He’ll aim to have an even bigger year in 2022, pursuing his first career Pro Bowl nod.
