The Denver Broncos selected Oklahoma safety Delarrin Turner-Yell in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL draft on Saturday (152nd overall).

The third consecutive Broncos pick on the defensive side of the ball on day 3 of the 2022 NFL draft will be a good depth option for safeties Justin Simmons and Kareem Jackson.

In 2021,  Turner-Yell recorded three interceptions and 52 tackles. He finished as a 2nd-team All-Big 12 defender. He also excelled off the field, earning an Academic All-Big 12 Second Team selection. After his career as a Sooner was over, he finished with 136 solo tackles, 190 total tackles, four interceptions and one forced fumble.

Turner-Yell (5-11, 200 pounds) adds size and strength to what is sure to be a tough defensive unit.

Turner-Yell ran an unofficial 4.47 40-yard dash at the combine, also participating in this year’s Senior Bowl. He was the 23rd-ranked safety out of 33 prospects according to DraftWire’s Luke Easterling, and 286th in DraftWire’s top 300 prospects.

According to NFL.com’s draft profile, Turner-Yell is quick to the ball and will bring the strength of a good NFL tackler.

He will hopefully be a good depth option for the safety position to help against the potent offenses of the Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Chargers and Las Vegas Raiders. He joins Sooner teammate Nik Bonitto, who was the first Bronco selected in the NFL draft at 64th overall in the 2nd round.

Next pick: 162nd overall (fifth round)
