Broncos Wire’s 90-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at first-year offensive tackle Demontrey Jacobs, No. 71.
Before the Broncos: Jacobs (6-6, 315 pounds) spent three seasons at Grambling State, beginning with a redshirt season in 2017. After starting 22 games for the Tigers from 2018-2019, Jacobs transferred to USF ahead of the 2020 season. Thanks to his redshirt season and an extra year of eligibility from COVID-19, Jacobs was eligible to play three seasons with the Bulls.
Jacobs started one game at left tackle in 2020 before taking over as the full-time right tackle for 12 games in 2021. He started all 12 games again in 2022, ending his college career with 47 starts between two colleges.
Broncos tenure: Denver signed Jacobs as an undrafted free agent last spring and he spent his rookie season on the practice squad. He is entering his second season with the Broncos, but Jacobs did not appear in any games and did not earn an accrued season last fall, so the NFL lists him as a “first-year” player.
Chances to make the 53-man roster: Toss up. It remains to be seen how many backup offensive tackles Denver carries on the active roster this year. Jacobs won’t be a favorite, but he’ll get a chance to win a spot this summer.
