Broncos roster series: No. 30, DB Tanner McCalister

After playing in three games with the Browns last fall, Tanner McCalister signed with the Broncos in January. He’ll aim to impress at camp.

Broncos Wire’s 90-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at second-year cornerback Tanner McCalister, No. 30.

Before the Broncos: McCalister spent five years in college, playing for Oklahoma State (2018-2021) and Ohio State (2022). In his five seasons, McCalister recorded 149 total tackles (110 solo, 39 assisted), four interceptions and 13 passes defended.

After college, McCalister stayed in Ohio, signing with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent prior to the 2023 season, and he played in three games for AFC North squad. In his three games, McCalister only recorded two tackles (one solo, one assisted).

Broncos tenure: McCalister was signed after the 2023 season by Denver to a future/reserve contract and he officially joined the 90-man offseason roster in March.

Chances to make the 53-man roster: Long shot. The Broncos have a crowded safety depth chart and McCalister will face an uphill battle to make the active roster. He would have to make a big impression on head coach Sean Payton and defensive coordinator Vance Joseph to make the 53-man roster this summer.
