Denver Broncos rookie Bo Nix looked sharp in the team’s preseason showdown with the Green Bay Packers last week, making it an easy decision for coach Sean Payton to name him the starting quarterback.
Nix went 8-of-9 passing for 80 yards with one touchdown pass and no turnovers in a 27-2 victory. It was a sharp performance, but there’s still room for improvement.
After becoming named the team’s starter on Wednesday, Nix was asked where he can improve going into his first season in the NFL.
“Just a few different things,” Nix said. “Some mannerisms and some things that I can give away. Some cadence stuff — and I completely botched one play that I needed to fix and we fixed that a lot today, over the last few days. We had a whole drill that [quarterbacks coach] Davis [Webb] set up just because of the play that I messed up.
“But that’s good because that means you won’t mess it up again. That’s one where every time it’s called from here on out, I will always think about that one time I messed it up. You are always analyzing and reviewing the film to see different things that you don’t see on the field. [I’m] excited and ready to go to the next one.”
Nix will make his regular season debut when the Broncos go on the road to face the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1. We don’t know exactly what mannerisms and cadences Nix needs to clean up, but Denver’s staff is working to fix it. Perhaps we’ll get an update on it after Week 1.
