Broncos QB Russell Wilson: ‘I’ll forever have love in my heart for Seattle’

“People are going to love you, and they are going to hate you sometimes … [but] I’ll forever have love in my heart for Seattle.”

After 10 years with the Seattle Seahawks, quarterback Russell Wilson was traded to the Denver Broncos this offseason, finalizing a breakup with his former team that appeared to be brewing for several years.

Wilson won a Super Bowl with the Seahawks, but the split has seemingly created some bitterness in Seattle. Without directly saying so, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll has even hinted that Seattle fans should boo Wilson when he returns in Week 1.

As for Wilson, he’s choosing to remember the good times.

“My experience in Seattle was one of a kind. Ten years, I couldn’t imagine those years not being in my life — how special they were, how many games we won, how many amazing thrillers, and the Super Bowl we won and everything else. I’m going to think of all those memories and everything else and the joy of that and the gratitude of that.

“Also, we have a football game to play. So I’m excited to just get out there and play, again. I love this game. I’m passionate about it. I have a lot of great teammates and a lot of guys that I’m super close with on the other side. So it will be a great battle.”

Wilson has chosen to take the high road, and he’s made it clear that he’ll always love Seahawks fans, even if they don’t feel the same way about him.

“People are going to love you, and they are going to hate you sometimes, whatever it may be,” Wilson said. “But I know that for me I’ll forever have love in my heart for Seattle.”
