Broncos preparing for possible July training camp

“We think we’re going to have a season [and think that] we’ll end up going to training camp,” Broncos GM John Elway said.

COVID-19 has shut down sports leagues across the world but the NFL has remained optimistic that its season will start on time (perhaps without fans in the stands). To start the season on time, it would be helpful to be able to start training camp on time during the summer.

Speaking to reporters during a post-draft Zoom conference call on April 25, Broncos general manager John Elway said Denver is operating as if camp will start on time in late July.

“We’re still very positive [about] the fact, and you know, encouraged by the fact that we think we’re going to have a season [and] that we’ll end up going to training camp, but again, we’ll just have to kind of wait and see and see where that falls,” Elway said.

“Nobody really knows. We’re going to prepare like we’re able to prepare it, and the plan is to get ready to go to camp at the end of July.”

There’s no guarantee that NFL teams will be able to start training camp practices on time, but if they are, the Broncos will be ready to go.
