The Denver Broncos lost to the Kansas City Chiefs 19-8 in a Thursday Night Football showdown in Week 6.
After driving down to Kansas City’s 38-yard line on their opening series, Denver’s offense stalled and quarterback Russell Wilson was sacked on fourth down, giving the Chiefs the ball via turnover on downs.
Kansas City then drove down the field before pass breakups from cornerback Ja’Quan McMillian and Mike Purcell forced the Chiefs to settle for a field goal, giving them a 3-0 lead early in the first quarter.
Kansas City was then unable to capitalize on a Wilson interception as Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes followed it up with an interception of his own. Broncos safety Justin Simmons gave Denver’s offense the ball back at their own seven-yard line after picking off a Mahomes pass.
The Broncos and Chiefs then exchanged turnovers on downs, both failing to convert fourth-down attempts. Kansas City later scored on a Mahomes touchdown pass to Kadarius Toney that made it 10-0 three minutes before halftime. The Chiefs then got the ball back and added a field goal to make it 13-0 going into the break.
In the second half, KC kicked another field goal to make it 16-0 midway through the third quarter. Denver drove down to the Chiefs’ 41-yard line on its next possession before a Wilson pass was tipped at the line and then intercepted, giving KC the ball back at its 36-yard line.
In the fourth quarter, Wilson threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Courtland Sutton and Javonte Williams converted a two-point attempt to make it 16-8. The Chiefs matched that score with a field goal to put the game out of reach, 19-8.
On the injury front, tight end Greg Dulcich left with a hamstring injury and did not return.
The Broncos will now have an unofficial mini-bye over the weekend before hosting the Green Bay Packers at home on Oct. 22.
