Broncos kicker Brett Maher had a bounce-back game against 49ers

After missing a FG and having a FG attempt blocked in the Broncos’ first preseason game, Brett Maher went 4-for-4 on kicks in Week 2.

After missing a 47-yard field goal attempt and having a 52-yard field goal attempt blocked in Week 1 of preseason, Denver Broncos kicker Brett Maher had a bounce-back performance against the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday.

In Denver’s second preseason game, Maher converted 48- and 34-yard field goal attempts against the 49ers and he went 2-of-2 on extra point attempts.

“I was pleased with Mahar tonight,” coach Sean Payton said after the game.

Maher said after the game that it felt good to get back into the swing of things.

“It was good,” the veteran kicker said. “It was a good solid day … I think there is always an element of getting in the swing of things and remembering what those feelings are. You just go out there and try to go one-for-one as many times as needed.”

Payton has said that Maher is competing against other kickers across the league who might become available during roster cuts. After going 4-of-4 in San Francisco, Maher has to be feeling better about his chances of making Denver’s 53-man roster.

“Anytime you go out there and go one-for-one again, you put yourself in
a good spot.”
