As the Denver Broncos’ new owners begin a head coach search for the first time, they will face competition from at least four other teams — the Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, Carolina Panthers and Arizona Cardinals — who are also seeking new coaches.
The list of teams in the market for a coach will grow if Sean McVay steps away from his job with the Los Angeles Rams and/or if other teams are late to make a decision on firing their coach (even playoff teams could do so later this month).
For now, though, the Texans, Colts, Panthers and Cardinals are the teams that potential coach candidates will be weighing against the Broncos. How appealing the five jobs are compared to each other depends on who you ask.
Nate Davis of USA TODAY Sports has Denver’s opening ranked third, behind the Cardinals and Panthers but above the Colts and Texans.
“The Broncos were widely projected to at least be playoff contenders in 2022, so it’s not like the next coach is walking into an empty stable,” Davis wrote on Monday (more here).
At the time of this writing, Denver has six known candidates for its head coach opening, and those candidates will likely draw interest from other teams as well. Let the interviews begin.
