The Denver Broncos are averaging 19.6 points per game, which ranks 10th-worst in the NFL through the first eight weeks of the season.
The defense has also been underperforming — especially in recent weeks — but the offense has been dismal. Broncos fans have made it clear that they want offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur fired, but general manager George Paton is not rushing to make such a move.
“We need to be better on offense,” Paton said Tuesday. “Pat knows that, and we all know that. Our players know that. Pat’s had a lot of success in this league. I believe in Pat, but we do need to play better. We just don’t seem to have a lot of rhythm.
“We’re not good in the critical downs and critical areas of the field. We were this past weekend, but we need to run the ball better. There’s a lot of things, but they’re working on it. Pat has had a lot of success, so I do believe in Pat.”
Paton clearly believes the offense hasn’t been good enough, but it seems that he did not want to throw Shurmur under the bus. For now, it appears Denver is not planning to make any coaching changes, but that might change in the coming weeks if the Broncos don’t show improvement on offense soon.
