Broncos drop 5 spots in NFL power rankings after benching Russell Wilson

After they benched Russell Wilson, the Broncos dropped five spots in USA TODAY’s NFL power rankings.

Following a 16-9 win over the Los Angeles Chargers, the Denver Broncos are now ranked No. 27 in Nate Davis’ latest NFL power rankings for USA TODAY Sports. That’s down five spots from their No. 22 ranking last week.

Here is Davis’ commentary on the Broncos going into the final week of the regular season:

So we’re really going to contend that QB Jarrett Stidham, who just won his first football game since college – five years ago – against a highly depleted Chargers outfit is an upgrade over Russell Wilson? Got it.

Elsewhere in the AFC West, the Kansas Chiefs (10-6) are ranked No. 4, the Los Angeles Chargers (5-11) are ranked No. 30 and the Las Vegas Raiders (7-9) are ranked No. 23. Las Vegas will host Denver in Week 18.

Already eliminated from playoff contention, the Broncos and Raiders will merely be playing for pride when they face off on Sunday.

The Carolina Panthers (2-14) are ranked No. 32 (last) and the Baltimore Ravens (13-3) are ranked No. 1. To view the complete NFL power rankings going into Week 18, visit USATODAY.com.
