Broncos CB Pat Surtain ruled out vs. Chargers with concussion

Denver Broncos star cornerback Pat Surtain left Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers in the first quarter after suffering an apparent head injury.

Surtain stayed down on the field for several moments and then was able to walk to the sideline. He was then evaluated in the blue medical tent. After being evaluated, Surtain was taken into the locker room by team personnel.

The Broncos later announced that Surtain was being evaluated for a possible concussion. Levi Wallace entered the game to play across from Riley Moss after Surtain was taken to the locker room.

Surtain will have a short turnaround after Sunday’s game as Denver is set to go on the road to face the New Orleans Saints on Thursday Night Football in Week 7.

Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh was also evaluated in the blue medical tent and then taken into the locker room by L.A.’s staff. The Chargers later announced that Harbaugh is questionable to return with an illness. Jesse Minter, the team’s defensive coordinator, is now serving as their interim head coach.
