The Denver Broncos recognized recovering Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin before Sunday’s season finale.
Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson and Chargers safety Derwin James Jr., who both share Hamlin’s No. 3 jersey number, met and prayed at midfield before the game and then held up three fingers before returning to their sidelines.
Players for both teams locked arms on the field while Wilson and James met at the 50-yard line. The moment was met with loud cheers from fans at Empower Field at Mile High.

In addition to the pre-game recognition, the Broncos also recognized Hamlin by painting the “3” at the 30-yard line with a Bills red outline. Teams across the league had similar moments of recognition on Sunday.
Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest against the Cincinnati Bengals last week and that Bills-Bengals game was eventually canceled. Hamlin has since made great progress in his recovery, and he is now breathing on his own.
