Broncos agree to terms with LB/DB Mark Barron

The Broncos have agreed to terms with linebacker Mark Barron.

After visiting the Denver Broncos last week, 30-year-old safety/linebacker hybrid Mark Barron has agreed to terms on a one-year contract, the team announced Sunday.

Barron (6-2, 230 pounds) was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft after winning two national championships at Alabama. He started in all 16 games in his first season and earned PFWA All-Rookie Team honors.

After spending two more seasons with the Bucs, Barron was traded to the St. Louis (now Los Angeles) Rams. Barron was a five-year starter with the Rams before leaving the team in free agency last spring.

Barron spent 2019 with the Pittsburgh Steelers, totaling 82 tackles, three sacks, three pass breakups and one interception in 15 games (nine starts). In his career, Barron has totaled 710 tackles, 42 pass breakups, 12 sacks, nine interceptions and 21 quarterback hits in 119 games (102 starts).

Barron is a versatile player who has spent time at strong safety, outside linebacker, nickelback and inside linebacker. He will likely serve as the Broncos’ third-down coverage linebacker this season.
