The San Francisco 49ers, missing several offensive starters already, will be without their starting quarterback as they close out the season on the road in Week 18 against the Arizona Cardinals.
Brock Purdy, who exited the 49ers’ Monday night loss to the Detroit Lions late in the game with an elbow injury, will miss the finale, head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters on a conference call on Tuesday.
Fortunately for the 49ers, the injury is not serious. It is not related to his UCL, which he had surgically repaired last offseason. It is an elbow contusion with nerve inflammation. While he will miss the game against Arizona, there are no long-term concerns.
So the Cardinals will face either Josh Dobbs or Brandon Allen on Sunday. Shanahan had not decided yet who would start. Dobbs was active as the backups against the Lions and finished the game, rushing for a touchdown.
