Brock Purdy clears concussion protocol

Brock Purdy is good to go vs. the Bengals.

That was quick. 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has cleared concussion protocol and will be good to play for San Francisco on Sunday vs. the Bengals.

Purdy suffered a concussion late in the team’s Week 7 loss to the Vikings. His symptoms didn’t start until he was on the team plane back to Santa Clara, and head coach Kyle Shanahan announced that his QB was in concussion protocol.

It was clear Purdy was moving quickly through the necessary steps to play Sunday against Cincinnati. He didn’t practice Wednesday, but was limited Thursday and a full participant Friday. All he had to do was clear the final hurdle in an evaluation Saturday.

That the QB was able to get ready for Sunday is pretty surprising given that he sustained the head injury Monday night. It’s been difficult for players to clear protocol from Sunday to Sunday.

Shanahan on Friday said if Purdy cleared protocol he’d start, so Sam Darnold will remain the QB2 for Week 8’s game.
