Brooklyn Nets General Manager Sean Marks is expected to be in that same role for next season, according to Brian Lewis of the New York Post. Marks is expected to come his job beyond this season despite the superstar experiment of Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden failing in spectacular fashion.
Marks has been the GM of the Nets since Feb. 18, 2016 and in those seven-plus seasons, there has been a lot of things that have happened with the organization. The franchise made the playoffs four times including the 2020-2021 season when the Nets lost to the Milwaukee Bucks in seven games in the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals.
In the summer of 2019, Durant came to Brooklyn in a sign-and-trade deal and Irving came to the franchise as a free agent. The superstar experiment wasn’t done at that time as in the beginning of the 2020-2021 season, the Nets traded for Harden to finally have a big three. However, since then, the organization knew nothing but drama as Irving was in the headlines for multiple reasons. Eventually, the championship window closed for Brooklyn when all three stars asked out in a matter of a year.
As Lewis points out in his piece, now that the franchise has young players like Mikal Bridges, Cameron Johnson, and Nic Claxton along with a good amount of draft assets, the franchise is willing to let Marks try to build something concrete with this current situation before making a decision on his future. Time will tell if Marks is the man for the job this time around, but as of right now, the Nets’ future is bright.
