According to NFL reporter Aaron Wilson, former Pittsburgh Steelers assistant coach and current Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores took himself out of the running for the head coaching vacancy with the Arizona Cardinals in order to take the DC position in Minnesota.
Based on what Wilson reported, Flores is rolling the dice on a better head coaching job becoming available in 2024. Quite a risk given the volatile climate of the NFL and the inevitable coaching carousel. Plus this sort of report really can’t sit well with the Vikings if Flores isn’t planning to stick around for the long haul and try to rebuild a struggling Minnesota defense.
Flores only spent one season with the Steelers as a senior assistant coach and linebackers coach but no one expected him to stay long. His impact was significant but after being fired by as the Miami Dolphins head coach just a year before, it was only a matter of time until Flores got back into the mix.
On new #Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores withdrawing from #Cardinals head coaching search, several league sources emphasized how many potential head coaching jobs will be open in 2024 and was a consideration for former #Dolphins head coach
