Brian Flores says his relationship with Tua Tagovailoa ‘wasn’t strained’

According to the coach, there was respect between the two.

When the Miami Dolphins fired head coach Brian Flores on the Monday following their Week 18 victory over the New England Patriots there were a lot of people who were surprised by the decision.

However, when story after story continued to come out about the relationships going on in the front office and between the coach and quarterback, it seemed more understandable.

In a preview clip for a new episode of “I am Athlete” that will be released on February 21, Flores refuted the idea that he and Tua Tagovailoa had issues.

“This is an interesting topic because it wasn’t strained,” Flores said. “We had a good relationship. It was a player-coach relationship, and I think in a relationship like that, the coach challenges the player, and oftentimes, the player challenges the coach. I think there was a great deal of respect between the two of us.”

Whenever a team moves on from a coach there are always stories that come out about issues that the coach was having. These are often fabricated or embellished to make them look bad. That might not be the case here, but we will hear more of Flores’ side of the story in the coming days.
