Brian Flores spoke to the media on Wednesday, one day after he sued the NFL and three teams in a discrimination lawsuit.
The former Miami Dolphins head coach discussed certain aspects of his coaching career. This included his time in New England. A member of the Patriots coaching staff for 11 seasons, he began his coaching career in New England as a special teams assistant in 2008-2009. He then was an assistant offensive and special teams coach in 2010.
Working up the coaching ladder, he was given the title of linebackers coach. He served in that position from 2016 to 2018 before taking the job as head coach of the Miami Dolphins in 2019. Flores was able to take lessons he learned from New England into his other coaching endeavors, he said in an interview Wednesday night on MSNBC.
“I had a great experience there,” Flores said. “There’s a lot of great people in that building. There’s a reason why they’ve had so much success. I learned a lot about the game, myself, how to prepare, how to work, how to coach, how to teach. I grew exponentially when I was there. There’s a lot of things I learned. I have a lot of respect for a lot of people in that building. I have nothing but good memories there.”
Flores had ties to the New England area even before joining the Patriots coaching staff. He was a linebacker for Boston College from 1999-2002.
