Brian Flores issues lengthy response to Tua Tagovailoa’s comments

Brian Flores responds to Tua Tagovailoa’s comments

Former New England Patriots defensive play-caller Brian Flores responded to Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s claims earlier this week.

Tagovailoa spoke openly about Flores, who is the former head coach for the Dolphins, putting him down by saying he “sucked” and “didn’t belong.” Flores served the position from 2019-2021 and compiled a 24-25 record.

He is now the defensive coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings, following a stint with the Pittsburgh Steelers as a senior defensive assistant and linebackers coach.

Flores responded to Tagovailoa’s comments with a measured response when speaking with media members.

“That hit me in a way that I wouldn’t say was positive for me, but at the same time, I’ve got to use that and say, ‘Hey, how can I grow from that? How can I be better?’ That’s really where I’m at from that standpoint,” said Flores. “Do I feel like that’s me? No. How can I grow from that situation and create a world where that’s not a case where anybody says that about Brian Flores?”

Tagovailoa played in 23 games under Flores, throwing for 4.467 yards, 27 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. Miami struggled to find success over that timeframe, missing the playoffs in those two seasons.

That ultimately led to Flores’ firing and the team’s decision to hire Mike McDaniel. Under McDaniel, Tagovailoa developed into a Pro Bowl quarterback and the 2023 passing yards leader in the NFL.

Miami has also made the playoffs in back-to-back seasons. It has been a night and day difference for the Dolphins.
