Brian Baldinger thinks Commanders need to play Taylor Heinicke

Carson Wentz hasn’t exactly had a ton of help.

Brian Baldinger has seen enough. Baldinger, a former NFL offensive lineman and a terrific analyst was watching the Washington Commanders’ Thursday night game against the Chicago Bears and came away with an observation:

Head coach Ron Rivera should turn to backup quarterback Taylor Heinicke in the second half.

It’s rare for a prominent analyst to make such an observation on Twitter during a game, but Washington’s struggles on offense make it a worthwhile observation.

Carson Wentz has struggled in the first half. Wentz entered the game with a right biceps tendon strain. In fairness to the quarterback, he hasn’t had a lot of help. Washington’s offensive line continued its struggles, and Wentz threw a dime across the middle to wide receiver Curtis Samuel who dropped a surefire touchdown.

Washington leads Chicago, 3-0, with under one minute remaining in the first half.
