We’re only two weeks into the season but Steve Avila looks like he was a fantastic selection by the Rams at No. 36 overall in the draft this year. Avila has played every snap at left guard and while PFF has only given him a grade of 59.0, he’s been everything the Rams hoped he would be this season.
NFL analyst Brian Baldinger came away impressed by Avila’s play once again in Week 2, highlighting the Rams rookie in his weekly breakdown on social media. Baldinger called Avila “rookie gold” for the way he’s playing, picking out six plays from the Rams’ loss to the 49ers as ones that show Avila’s ability.
“What a start for Steve Avila, TCU, a Horned Frog. Cementing himself at left guard for these Rams,” Baldinger said.

Avila isn’t going to win Rookie of the Year and he probably won’t make the Pro Bowl this season, but the Rams have found a stud left guard who can start for them for the next decade. If that comes to fruition, it’ll be a home run pick by Les Snead and Sean McVay.
