Brian Allen has been a pleasant surprise for the Rams at center, stepping up as the starter in place of Austin Blythe. He’s an important part of the offensive line and the Rams hope they won’t be without him in Week 10.
Allen is dealing with an elbow injury that he suffered against the Titans on Sunday night, putting his status for Week 10 in question. He won’t practice with the Rams on Thursday and it’s unclear how much work he’ll get in this week.
“He won’t be a participant today,” Sean McVay said of Allen on Thursday. “Came out a little bit sore after the game so we’ll see what his week looks like as we progress.”
If Allen were to miss Monday night’s game against the 49ers, it would be Coleman Shelton taking over as the starting center. McVay is confident in his ability to fill in, complimenting him on the job he did in the preseason and during practice.
“Coleman Shelton’s done a great job,” he said. “We really saw him play a lot of snaps in the preseason. He got better and better. He’s always been a really sharp guy, but then I think you see the physical reps that really were illustrated by the way that he played in the preseason against some really good players. And then we saw that every day in camp and every day out here when we’re competing in practice. He’s done a great job, just did an excellent job in the walk-through and so if Brian isn’t able to go – which we hope he is – have a lot of confidence in Coleman.”
The Rams will practice on Thursday, Friday and Saturday in preparation for their road matchup with San Francisco on Monday night.
