Brett Favre says QB Deshaun Watson should keep playing for the Texans

Pro Football Hall of Fame QB Brett Favre believes Deshaun Watson should keep playing for the Houston Texans and just keep doing his job.

While the Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are gearing up for Super Bowl LV, one of the storylines of the week has been Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson.

Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre was the latest legend or talking head to offer his two cents on the tense situation between the three-time Pro Bowler and the AFC South club.

Minty Bets from Yahoo Sports asked the Super Bowl champion signal caller: “What do you think about Deshaun Watson’s decision to be traded?”

Favre meandered around with the question, much like he did evading pressure in his 20-year NFL career, saying it was “unheard of” in his day for a player to express such displeasure, but ultimately gave his thoughts on how Watson should handle the situation.

“I’m kind of old school,” Favre said. “I think you play. You get paid a ton of money to do a certain job and just do it and let the chips fall where they may. I think we make too much money to voice an opinion, but I’m not saying he’s wrong. Again, I think it’s a different day and time, and it will be interesting to see how the organization handles it.”

One of the notable instances where Favre didn’t take his own advice was with the Green Bay Packers. After retiring from the NFL in the 2008 offseason, Favre un-retired and showed up to Packers training camp. Then-coach Mike McCarthy, general manager Ted Thompson, and president and CEO Mark Murphy remained firm in their commitment to keeping fourth-year Aaron Rodgers as their starting quarterback. Favre asked for a trade and was dealt to the New York Jets, where he played for a season before ending up with the Minnesota Vikings for the final two seasons of his career.

The Watson situation is nevertheless unprecedented, and it won’t go away anytime soon.
