Former Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy is one of the leading candidates for several head coaching vacancies across the NFL, and according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, McCarthy is traveling to Dallas on Saturday to meet with Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys. McCarthy has already interviewed with the Cleveland Browns and the New York Giants.
According to Packers legend Brett Favre, McCarthy is the type of coach who could elevate the franchise quarterbacks with any of those three organizations – Dallas’ Dak Prescott, Cleveland’s Baker Mayfield and New York’s Daniel Jones. In an appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio, Favre said that McCarthy will cater to the strengths of his quarterback, and that he’s easy to relate to as a passer.
How does @BrettFavre think Mike McCarthy will do if he gets another head coaching opportunity?
"I think any young Quarterback would like him and he is very understandable."

“I think any young quarterback would like him. And he’s very understandable, much like Brian Daboll at Buffalo and Darrell Bevell, guys who are coaching right now, relate to the guys very well. And I think that’s important, on top of his Xs and Os mentality. Obviously he’s had Aaron Rodgers and that certainly helps but I do think he brings a level of toughness, but also a confidence that as a player, as a quarterback for him, you feel confident in the plays that he calls that he’s going to call plays that cater more to your ability rather than maybe a previous guy he had.”
