Philadelphia 76ers point guard Ben Simmons has not played since February 22 when he suffered a serious back injury against the Milwaukee Bucks. The pain Simmons was in was so excruciating that he was vomiting in pain.
As the season gets set to resume on July 30 at the league’s “bubble site” in Orlando, there is still some concern about Simmons’ health according to coach Brett Brown. While some reports have come out saying that he is completely healed from the injury, Brown told Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix that it is not necessarily true.
Brown told Mannix:
“My opinion, and this is not confirmed yet, is that we are going to be able to inch him back into this,” Brown said. “Is he going to be 100%, I don’t expect that. But I think he is going to be available.”
This will be an interesting development as the season gets set to resume in late July. Back injuries are always tricky due to it always being a tweak away from being reaggravated or possibly making it worse.
The encouraging sign for Sixers fans is that he is in the gym working out and preparing for the resumption as he has been working with Miami Heat legend Dwyane Wade. When the season does resume, all eyes will be on his back and to see just how much he can get back to 100%. If he is healthy, it’s a huge difference for Philadelphia, especially on the defensive end of the floor. [lawrence-related id=33185,33178,33169]
