Brett Brown explains why Sixers coaching staff wore Kobe’s vs. Lakers

Philadelphia 76ers coach Brett Brown explains why the coaching staff wore Kobe shoes.

The tragic passing of NBA and Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant is still affecting the NBA more than a month after his passing, but his legend still lives on. As the Philadelphia 76ers faced the Lakers on Tuesday on the road, the entire Sixers coaching staff wore Nike Kobe Bryant shoes to honor the fallen legend.

Bryant, of course, played high school basketball at local Lower Merion and led them to a state title in 1996. There is a connection between the Sixers and Bryant despite him playing for the Lakers for the entirety of his career. Coach Brett Brown and his staff wanted to honor that.

“It’s our way, it’s a very small way, but it’s our way of showing the level of respect and appreciation and gratitude for everything he did for the sport and what he meant to this city and this building,” Brown explained. “As I say, it’s a small thing, but it’s our thing and I’m thrilled that we could show some level of consideration for what has happened.”

No matter how much time passes, Bryant’s legacy will continue to live on in basketball, no matter what level of the sport. He will go down as one of the most influential players to ever play. [lawrence-related id=27047,27039,27023]
