Brent Venables puts in extra work after Sooners walk through

Brent Venables has a big opportunity ahead of him on Saturday night.

Oklahoma Sooners head football coach [autotag]Brent Venables[/autotag] was seen doing something a bit peculiar on Friday afternoon, following a team walkthrough. OU hosts the Tennessee Volunteers in a highly-anticipated matchup on Saturday night, with “College GameDay” along for the ride in Norman.

It’s a huge game for so many reasons, but perhaps at the top of the heap is that it’s Oklahoma’s first conference game as a member of the [autotag]SEC[/autotag].

Instead of getting to ease into league play, the Sooners draw the Volunteers, one of the best teams in the country. ESPN and ABC’s top broadcast trio of Chris Fowler, Kirk Herbstreit and Holly Rowe will be on the call of the game, and the entire “GameDay” crew is on campus for Saturday morning’s show.

Following a Friday walkthrough to get ready for the Volunteers, Rowe, who is ESPN/ABC’s top sideline reporter for college football captured the third-year head coach doing something a bit strange.

Despite the 99-degree temperatures, Venables was running the steps of Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.

Rowe posted the video on social media, as she’s been doing with plenty of her other observations around Norman this week. Though it was nearly 100-degrees outside, and he had just led the team in a walkthrough, Venables had to get the work in before a busy weekend approaches.

Regardless of the outcome on Saturday night, one thing is for sure: No one wants it more than Brent Venables.
