Brent Venables among CBS Sports ‘winners’ from week 12

After the Oklahoma Sooners win over Oklahoma State, Brent Venables was included in CBS Sports’ “winners” from week 12. From @john9williams

The Sooners got a big win on Saturday against Oklahoma State. It was Brent Venables’ first win over a rival and first in the Bedlam series for the first-year head coach.

With the win, the Sooners earned bowl eligibility and kept their postseason streak alive, which dates back to 1998.

After Oklahoma’s offense scored 28 points in the first quarter, they went quiet, but the Sooners’ defense played one of their best games of the season. Their performance, which included four interceptions and six sacks, provided a glimpse of what’s possible for the Oklahoma Sooners under Brent Venables.

In the wake of Oklahoma’s Bedlam win, Brent Venables was included in CBS Sports “winners” of week 12.

Perhaps no one in college football needed a win more than Venables. The Sooners already clinched their first losing record in conference play since 1998 and most regular season losses since 2009, but the Bedlam winning streak is back after the Sooners shellacked Oklahoma State 28-13. Oklahoma let out some demons in the first quarter, jumping out to a 28-0 lead it would never relinquish. Things got a little hairy down the stretch as the Sooners offense completely collapsed, but the lead was large enough that Venables’ Sooners clinched the win and a bowl appearance. There’s plenty of issues to clean up, but Oklahoma will happily take the state championship trophy in what has otherwise been a miserable season. – Shehan Jeyarajah, CBS Sports
