The Browns and Steelers are about to play the most important game for Cleveland in well over a decade, but the storyline for the game has taken a back seat to the overflowing COVID-19 developments for both teams.
Several Sunday morning reports indicate that the Browns had another round of unscheduled rapid COVID-19 tests after cornerback Kevin Johnson tested positive. Another player was symptomatic but had not yet tested positive, per ESPN’s Sunday morning preview show.
Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated/MMQB tweeted out what everyone is thinking, that the Browns plane trip to New York last weekend is the primary culprit in the team’s ever-expanding outbreak.
The Browns flew to New York later than expected last Saturday after testing revealed at least one positive. The NFL flatly refused to reschedule the game, believing the contact tracing and protocols would take care of everything. Now the Browns have had several more players and coaches test positive and will face the Steelers without five regular players and three coaches.
