After a few days of rumors, the North Carolina Tar Heels have reportedly made decision on their next head coach. And they are hiring legendary NFL head coach Bill Belichick to take over.
Per Inside Carolina, the program is finalizing a deal to make Belichick the next head coach. The news broke for the site on Wednesday afternoon after a report from WRAL stated that they officially offered the job to the head coach.
In a stunning development that has progressed from implausible to an actuality, North Carolina is finalizing a contract to land Bill Belichick as its next football coach, Inside Carolina learned from multiple sources on Wednesday.
They opted to move on from the 73-year-old Mack Brown in his second stint which lasted six years and although he made a bowl game in each season, UNC struggled overall. Now, they turn to the 72-year-old Belichick.
The Tar Heels will make the hire official in the coming days, possibly as early as Wednesday. They need the Board of Trustees to meet and approve it as the final steps.
The hope is that Belichick can elevate this program to where it needs to go after having some tough years recently.
Belichick is a legend in his own right, coaching dozens of years at the NFL level and winning six Super Bowls with the New England Patriots and then two others as an assistant.
