BREAKING: Mike White leaving to coach at Florida’s biggest rival

Florida coach Mike White is leaving the program for the Georgia Bulldogs.

Florida men’s basketball coach Mike White is expected to be named the next head coach of the Georgia Bulldogs, according to several reports on Sunday. The news was first reported by CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein.

The announcement comes days after the Gators fell in the second round of the SEC Tournament to Texas A&M. The loss most likely cemented Florida’s spot in the National Invitational Tournament after it amassed a 19-13 record and went 9-9 in SEC play. It will likely be the first time Florida has missed the NCAA Tournament since 2016 and the second during White’s tenure. The Gators failed to make March Madness during his first season on the O’Connell Center sidelines.

He led Florida for the last seven years after taking over for the legendary Billy Donovan, who left for the Oklahoma City Thunder. White’s overall record with the Orange and Blue is 142-88.

White joins a Georgia team that just relieved Tom Crean of his duties and has historically struggled as a college basketball program.

This will be another critical hire for athletic director Scott Stricklin. White, former football coach Dan Mullen and former women’s basketball coach Cameron Newbauer all inked a contract extension a year ago and now a year later have been let go, left for another program or resigned.
