What is the top need for the Steelers in the 2021 NFL Draft? Ask five experts or even fans and you might get five different answers. But no matter where you rank them, the Steelers have multiple significant needs and only a limited number of picks.
This makes that first-round pick vitally important for a team set for a full-blown rebuild. Our friends over at Draft Wire have a brand new two-round mock draft out and you know we had to take a look. You can check out the whole thing right here.
The Steelers, with the No. 28 overall pick select Texas offensive tackle Samuel Cosmi. Given how poorly Alejandro Villanueva and Chuks Okorafor have played this year, a pick like this makes perfect sense. Cosmi is an underrated player in a loaded offensive tackle class and would be a starter from day one on an offensive line in dire need of an upgrade.
Moving to the second round, Draft Wire has the Steelers selecting Oregon State edge rusher Hamilcar Rashed Jr. I admit I only found out about Rashed a few weeks ago, but I love this pick for the Steelers. He’s a bendy edge guy with tons of raw physical tools. A year of coaching and he could be an elite rusher opposite T.J. Watt.
The obvious need that is overlooked in this mock draft is quarterback. And it is a debate pundits and fans will have all the way through the 2021 NFL draft. In this scenario, Florida’s Kyle Trask slips to the middle of the second round. If this happens, would the Steelers be tempted to trade up and get him to secure their future at the quarterback position? Let us know in the comments how you would want that to go.
