This will be the 84th meeting between Alabama and Auburn in what will no doubt, be an Iron Bowl to remember. Auburn comes into the game 8-3 with the determination to do whatever it takes to keep Alabama out of the College Football Playoff. Alabama, on the other hand, needs a big win over Auburn on the road to prove to the CFB Playoff Committee that they are truly the best one loss team in the country.

What does Auburn have to do to win?

Offensively, Auburn’s Bo Nix has to be consistent without any turnovers on Saturday. Nix has been very inconsistent this season, but has certainly had moments of growth. If Nix can be comfortable in the pocket and be consistent, Auburn has the chance to move the ball downfield and put points on the board. Also, if Auburn can settle into the running game early with JaTarvious Whitlow and the rest of the rushing unit, Auburn could really move the ball well downfield.

Defensively, Auburn has to shut down Alabama’s running game as well as put pressure on Mac Jones. If the Tigers’ defensive line can cause Alabama to create turnovers as well as prevent the Tide from moving downfield, Auburn has a chance to win this game.

What does Alabama have to do to win?

Alabama has to be absolutely perfect. This will be Mac Jones’ third start as quarterback, and he will need to be on his A-game. If Jones can remain cool under pressure, stay in the pocket, and be consistent in his passes, Alabama had a chance to put up big points on the board.  In his two starts against Arkansas and Western Carolina, he’s a combined 28/34 for 510 yards, 6 TDs, and 0 interceptions, so we know he is more than capable of being a consistent quarterback. And with the Alabama receiver group as talented as they are with Jeudy, Smith, Ruggs, and Waddle, there is no doubt Alabama can score against Auburn.

Defensively, Alabama has to stop Auburn’s running game, and put pressure on Nix. If Alabama’s defense can put on a show like they did last week against WCU and create turnovers, this game could be all Alabama. Alabama also needs to control the Tigers’ running game and prevent big plays from moving the ball downfield.

Who do I think will win this game?

Alabama. It won’t be a blow out, but it will be a much needed statement win to prove Alabama belong in the CFB Playoff.

Score prediction: Alabama 27, Auburn 17
