Breakdown of Tennessee’s 2020 defensive, special teams recruiting class by position

2020 Tennessee football recruiting.

DEFENSIVE BACK

Keyshawn Lawrence, 4-star from Nashville, Tennessee

Tennessee secured the No. 1 overall player in the state and No. 6 safety in the country with Lawrence’s signature during the Early Signing Period.

Out of Ensworth High School, Lawrence excelled at multiple positions, particularly with the ball in his hands. A big defensive back at 6-foot-2, 202-pounds, Pruitt loves safeties with ball skills and Lawrence fits that description, with several highlight-reel plays in all three phases throughout his high school career.

Doneiko Slaughter, 3-star from Roswell, Georgia

Slaughter posted 50 tackles, five TFLs and three interceptions during his senior year at Roswell High School, and comes to Tennessee as the No. 29 safety in the country after decommitting from Arizona State.

A raw, slightly undersized prospect at 5-foot-11 and 180-pounds, Tennessee’s staff hopes to turn Slaughter into a ball-hawk in the secondary.
