It’s felt like comeback season in WWE since Paul Levesque took over as head of creative, with former WWE and NXT talents like Braun Strowman and Johnny Gargano appearing on TV over the past few weeks. Yet one wrestler whose potential return had been much discussed even before Vince McMahon stepped down from the company in July still hasn’t made his way back: Bray Wyatt.
Wyatt has been gone from WWE since July 31 of last year, and was one of the more surprising releases in recent memory at the time. Though fans loved to debate whether the company had used him to his fullest potential, there’s no question Wyatt had a knack for connecting with crowds, and his alter ego of The Fiend was particularly popular.
A hint at a wrestling return surfaced in Wyatt’s own social media posts back in May, but since then it’s been mostly quiet on that front, with fans left to dig through his tweets looking for more clues. However, Dave Meltzer provided some new hope for anyone hoping to see him back in WWE in his latest Wrestling Observer newsletter, reporting that the two sides have been exploring that possibility, though money was a potential sticking point.
Regarding talk of Wyatt returning, there were definitely talks in that direction. At one point the talks stalled but it was said it was not a dead issue. Talks with him outside WWE had also stalled in the past, as his asking price was well above what other companies were willing to pay.
In an interesting follow-up, Meltzer noted that at the time of his release, Wyatt was believed to me making more money than anyone in WWE than Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar, in a tier with the likes of Randy Orton and Ronda Rousey.
When it comes to money, it’s often a “where there’s a will, there’s a way” situation, so the expectation would be that if Wyatt and WWE really want to work together again, they’ll figure it out. Until then, keep following the buzzards.
